Composting and Refining
The final phase of the UR-3R Process® is the composting of the Percolate solid material which provides further reduction of the remaining biodegradeble organic material.
Aerobic microbial activity and dehumidification are utilised to convert the organic material info on Organic Growth Media.
Australian users of OGM product should refer to the OGM Material Saftey Data Sheet for safe handling information.
Composting may be carried out within the Facility as part of the complete UR-3R process, or at another facility together with traditional sources of compostible materials.
The Percolate solid material can alternatively be refined (to non-combustibles) and as such, is also suitable for use as a renewable energy fuel.
Once the material is dried it has a calorific value in excess of 12 MJ/kg or can be combined with the non-recyclable plastic, paper and textile waste fractions to produce a fuel with a calorific value in excess of 18 MJ/kg.
